Police looking for two women impersonating as Sudha Murthy
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A case has been registered against two women for allegedly posing as office assistants of author and chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murthy, and selling tickets for a programme in California claiming that Murthy will be the chief guest at the event.
A complaint has been filed by Mamata Sanjay, executive secretary of Sudha Murthy, at the Jayanagar Police Station in Bengaluru regarding this.
Based on the complaint, a probe has been launched and the police are on the lookout for the two women. However the police have identified the accused as Lavanya and Shruthi and have charged them under the Information Technology (IT) Act and other sections of the IPC.
According to the complainant, the two women posing as members of Kannada Koota of Northern California (KKNC) had invited Sudha Murthy for the 50th anniversary programme to be held in California.
Due to the busy schedule, Murthy had replied that she wouldn't be able to attend the event. However the accused continued to advertise on social media with the photograph of Sudha Murthy claiming that she is going to be the chief guest in April.
When Murthy’s office contacted the organiser, the accused Lavanya allegedly said she had confirmed her presence through a call in the first week of August.
Further inquiries revealed that the accused had also advertised another programme called “Meet & Greet with Dr Sudha Murthy” in the USA and sold tickets at 40 USD in collusion with Shruthi.
The complaint has sought legal action against the two imposters.
