Three new metro routes , suburban rail expansion announced
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In an effort to address the persistent traffic congestion in the city, the Karnataka government, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), unveiled a series of proposals on September 22.
These proposals outline plans for enhancing Bengaluru's transportation infrastructure, including the development of three new metro corridors and a significant expansion of the suburban rail network to facilitate smoother transit within the city.
The primary objective, as outlined in the report, is to ensure that the metro system becomes easily accessible to residents across all areas of Bengaluru.
This goal is to be achieved by extending metro coverage to within one to two kilometres of people's homes or workplaces by the year 2032. The proposed metro routes are Old Airport Road, connecting MG Road to Hope Farm via Marathahalli and Whitefield; Old Madras Road, linking KR Puram to the Narsapura industrial area via Hoskote; An Inner Ring Road loop, connecting various areas including Yeshwantpur, Cantonment, Ashoka Pillar, Indiranagar, Koramangala, and Mahalakshmi Layout.
Additionally, the Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) has presented a comprehensive plan for the expansion of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP).
The proposed extensions encompass routes from Devanahalli to Kolar, Chikkabanavara to Tumakuru, Kengeri to Mysuru, and more.
