BBMP knows not Vidhana Soudha neighbourhood

Bengaluru: Residents of Ward number 100 are in need of immediate attention by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials. The roads in the ward are in poor condition, with many potholes and uneven surfaces.

There is also a lack of adequate drainage facilities, which leads to flooding during the rainy season. The ward experiences water shortages on a regular basis.

However, this is a problem that is faced by many parts of Bengaluru, but it is particularly acute in Vasanth Nagar due to the high population density. There is a large population of stray dogs and cats in the ward.

This can be a nuisance to residents and also poses a safety risk. The residents have also said that there is a shortage of parking spaces in the ward, which often leads to congestion and inconvenience for residents and the visitors here.

The pathways are often uneven and cracked, with large potholes and missing slabs. This makes it difficult and dangerous for pedestrians to walk, especially the elderly and people with disabilities.

The residents and traders in Vasanth Nagar have complained that the BBMP has been slow to address the problem of broken pedestrian pathways despite bringing all this to the notice of the officials.

But little has been done to fix these issues in the past few years, the residents said.

"I am losing out on business due to the road’s poor condition and the concerned authorities have not bothered to repair them," said a shopkeeper here.

Many car owners have stopped taking their vehicles out fearing damage. For people travelling on bikes, it’s a risky ride. Accidents are witnessed often here," he added.

None of the roads here have footpaths and walkers are forced to walk on the edges of the roads. Another resident said that the civic bodies had earlier dug up the roads for various reasons and left the place without restoring them.

"At some places, the residents had to fill up the potholes with mud and stones to avoid accidents. But during rains, the roads get slushy and water-logged making it difficult even to walk on them let alone ride," the resident added.

Meanwhile residents hope that after the BBMP elections, the situation might improve here.

It has been three years since the BBMP was dissolved after the completion of its tenure in September 2020 and has since then stayed leaderless.
