BBMP releases maps of 225 wards after delimitation

Bengaluru: After receiving suggestions from citizens and various groups, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the city's civic body, has released maps of the new wards.
This release comes a week after the delimitation notification was issued by the Karnataka Government's Urban Development Department (UDD) on September 25.
The maps provide comprehensive details about the newly formed wards, including the assembly constituency they fall under, as well as information about roads, railway lines, and lakes.
This action follows a High Court order to reduce the number of wards from 243 to 225. The previous BJP government had completed the delimitation process for 243 wards, but the court rejected their order after counterpetitioners raised concerns about "loopholes" in the reservation process.
The Congress, which recently came to power, successfully completed the delimitation process within the 12- week timeline set by the Court.
The Karnataka Congress, led by DK Shivakumar, has nominated seven former corporators and is expected to announce more candidates.
The BBMP has also indicated that the long-delayed elections might take place in January of the following year, following the announcement of the final candidates' list.
