Rules are rules, even for a policeman: B'luru Traffic Police

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A police officer in the city was penalised after he was found riding a motorcycle with its silencer modified.

Recently, a Bengaluru citizen had shared a video on the social media platform X handle, and tagged Bengaluru Police Commissioner and the Traffic Police (BTP) prompting them to take action on the matter.

In this particular video, a Royal Enfield motorcycle ridden by a police officer with another police officer on the pillion seat was seen. The citizen in his post highlighted that the bike the officers were riding had a "defective silencer," and added that it was making heavy noise.

The post then requested Hebbal Traffic Police and Bengaluru Traffic Police to book the rider and remove the defective silencer from the bike. The post also mentioned that the place of spotting this incident was Palace Road near the CBI office in the city.

The RT Nagar Traffic Police responded to the post and said that a violation had been raised. The Traffic Police also shared a picture of the fine raised, which showed the vehicle number and the infraction of having a defective silencer.

The fine was Rs 500. However the police said that the motorcycle was not making noise because it had a "defective silencer" as mentioned by the citizen in his post, rather the silencer was modified.

This modification, however, is currently illegal, and police authorities are very strict and can seize the vehicle if found with a modified silencer.

A number of netizens appreciated the quick and timely response from the city traffic police.
