Bengaluru Police urges citizens not to engage in betting

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: With the on-going Asia Cup, the city police are preparing to crack down on miscreants involved in running illegal offline and online betting rackets for the matches.

There is also every possibility that a betting racket is active during the ODI Cricket World Cup.

While the police in other states have arrested several accused involved in betting during recently held sports events like the Asia Cup and Caribbean Premier League, the Bengaluru police said that they have detected no such activity in the city.

"However we are keeping an eye on illegal activities here," a senior police officer told News Trail.

"Our special wing is checking the websites, social media platforms and the dark web for illegal advertisements and scams to lure people into betting their money," the officer added.

The police further said that if anyone broadcasts such an advert it would be a violation of many legal orders such as the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and the Press Council Act, 1978.
