BTP create green corridor for heart transplantation of 7-year-old

Bengaluru: The City Police on Sunday facilitated a fastest green corridor for an ambulance carrying a live heart. The green corridor covered a distance of 14 kilometers in just 13 minutes and 17 seconds.
The live heart was transported from a 14-yearold boy to a 7-year-old girl. The young girl had been diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and was in the advanced stages of heart failure.
Despite receiving optimal medical therapy, her condition was deteriorating rapidly, and her ejection fraction had decreased to 15 per cent. She was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy within a few months after she lost her elder sister to the same disease in 2019.
She was evaluated and listed for heart transplant in November 2022. The young girl had a very thin build, weighing only 17 kgs, and her blood group was O negative.
Her petite stature and O negative blood group status posed significant challenges in finding a suitable donor. Fortunately, a suitable donor, a 14-yearold boy, was found, and she is currently undergoing a heart transplant at SPARSH Hospital in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru.
"Green corridor was arranged for transporting this heart and a 14 kms distance was covered within 13.17 mins, and this was the fastest drive. Thanks to Bengaluru Traffic Police for organising Green Corridor," the official statement read.
