Bengaluru man alleges police took bribe from his Kerala-based cousin
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a serious allegation against the city police, a netizen on Reddit claimed that his cousin from Kerala was implicated in a false drug case and was later harassed by the police for a bribe here.
The incident is said to have taken place on Friday midnight near Bannerghatta in Bengaluru.
In his post, the user alleged that one of his cousins who was driving a bike bearing a Kerala registration number plate, was stopped by miscreants who planted drugs in his bag to blackmail him.
The user on Saturday wrote, "Today at 12am my cousin was out for some work. He was travelling in his KL registered bike and was surrounded by some rowdies. They planted drugs in his bag and started taking a video of him threatening to take him to the police if he didn't pay them Rs 60,000. However he managed to escape from there but had to ditch his phone and backpack," he said.
Further the user alleged that the police demanded a bribe when his cousin reached out to them for help.
"To take back his belongings and not file a case against him, the police took a Rs 45,000 bribe from him and let him off," he wrote while requesting help from other users.
The user stated that his cousin was employed at an automobile service center in Bengaluru.
"Around 10 pm that day, his boss had asked him to deliver a few cars belonging to the customers here," he added.
Meanwhile the other users expressed concern about such unsafe and corrupt incidents in the city. The Bengaluru police, however, are yet to verify and respond to the allegations.
