What should be done if the LPG delivery man charges you an extra amount?
Bengaluru
According to the L P G agency's customer policy, customers are not supposed to be charged extra by agents.
However, Residents in many areas of the city complain that agents demand extra delivery charges for their LPG cylinders.
In a similar incident that took place last month, Mala (name change) a resident of Rajarajeshwari Nagar was asked to pay Rs. 30 extra as a delivery fee, after booking a cylinder online.
She promised the agent to pay that fee in the next delivery, after not fetching the right change. Disgruntled by her response, the agent threatened Mala that the cylinder would be taken back if the extra fee was not furnished.
He asked Mala to bring the empty cylinder downstairs by herself, failing which the cylinder would not be delivered. The neighbours intervened at the scene and paid up the extra charge.
Mala later complained about the incident to the concerned LPG Gas agency. Speaking to News Trail, the LPG agency claimed that they haven’t received this complaint. “I demanded an extra amount because I had to lift the heavy cylinder to the third floor,” said the delivery agent.
Mala reiterated that she has no problem paying extra to the delivery agent. “The agent’s behaviour was inappropriate, which prompted me to complain,” she added.
Similar incidents are witnessed in the city, where delivery agents charge Rs 30-50 extra stating that it is mandatory pay. A staff working in an LPG Gas Agency in Chandra Layout clarified that Delivery agents are not to demand extra transportation charges if the customer's house is within a 5-kilometre radius.
“The delivery man can collect a tip of Rs 1.6 for every kilometre, only if the cylinder has to be delivered to a destination beyond 5 km,” they added.
