Heart attack cases have increased by 22% in past decade: Dr CN Manjunath
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a press briefing, C.N. Manjunath, the Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology Science and Research, claimed that the number of heart attack cases has increased by 22 percent.
However, he clarified that this increase is not due to COVID or its vaccination.
"It doesn't matter how many hours you work; it's the pressure you work under that does," he said.
People who work under pressure are vulnerable to various diseases and heart attacks. Doctors who work under soaring pressure have their life expectancy reduced by 10 years, according to a study conducted in Kerala.
Manjunath also pointed out how air pollution is a major factor in heart attacks, with approximately 22 lakh people having passed away due to it.
Smoking, excessive alcohol and drug use, obesity, and other genetic factors are the reasons for the increasing cases of heart attacks.
"The heart attack rate in Western continents of Europe and America has decreased, whereas in Asia."
