Bengaluru: A married woman and her live-in partner allegedly committed suicide by torching themselves at their residential flat in Kothanur Police Station limits in the city, an official said on Monday.

The police identified the deceased as 20-yearold Soumini Das from West Bengal and Abhil Abraham, 29, hailing from Kerala.

The police said that they had poured petrol and set fire to themselves around 12:45 pm on Sunday. Police explained that Soumini Das was married and pursuing her nursing studies in Bengaluru and got introduced to Abhil Abraham, who worked at a nursing home.

They developed a relationship and moved together to a flat in Doddagubbi village on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Soumini Das had recently called her husband and told him that she can’t live with him any more and that she wanted to spend life with her new partner.

The police found that Das had received a call from her husband on Sunday noon but the conversation between them has not been ascertained so far. The neighbours stated that they had heard noises and screams of the couple.

By the time they rushed to check on them, Soumini Das and Abhil had set fire to themselves. Soumini charred to death in a few minutes while her partner, Abhil Abraham was shifted to the Victoria Hospital.

However he too succumbed to the burn injuries on Sunday night. Kothanuru police have taken up investigation.
