Deepavali firecracker injuries: 16 cases, mostly eye-related, in city hospital

On the occasion of Deepavali, the city witnessed 16 cases of firecracker-related injuries on Sunday.

These cases, reported at Narayana Nethralaya, were predominantly eye-related. Among them, six are serious cases, while the remaining ten sustained minor injuries.

Remarkably, 90% of the affected individuals were bystanders. Dr. Rohit Shetty, the President of the hospital, reportedly mentioned that three of the six serious cases involved individuals aged between 19 and 22, with a couple of them being 10-year-old children and one a 50-year-old man.

Reportedly, two cases exhibited intraocular bleeding, and the eyes were successfully cleaned. Shetty also explained that shopkeepers are not immune to such incidents, emphasizing the need for the public to exercise caution, as even small sparks from firecrackers can cause severe damage to the eyes.

Additionally, Shetty assured that a dedicated team of six doctors and 20 medical staff members will be available to treat firecracker-related accidents.
