Deadline extended for installing HSRP no. plates till Feb'24

Bengaluru: As expected, the state transport department has extended the deadline for compulsory installation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on all vehicles till February 17 2024.
On October 25, News Trail had reported about the lukewarm response from the vehicle owners on the installation of the HSRP number plates in Bengaluru despite the transport department setting a deadline in the month of August this year.
The hesitancy to adopt the new registration plates was found to be due to lack of awareness and various other issues among the citizens about the benefits of HSRPs.
"Very few people who own old/existing vehicles have placed requests for the HSRP number plates during September," an official from the transport department told New Trail.
By extending the deadline further, the transport department is now planning a wide-scale publicity before mandating the HSRP number plate.
It is worth noting that several citizens had taken the matter to the court arguing against permitting only the HSRP manufacturers authorised by the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to fix the number plates.
