Bengaluru: Chancellor of Bangalore University, Gnanabharathi Dr. Jayakar Shetty's decision to allocate 1 crore for a hightech room renovation has drawn criticism as students voice concerns about financial constraints impacting scholarships and hostel facilities.

The university administration, including the VC and Registrar, had envisioned a posh renovation despite students' unattainability of basic facilities.

Speaking to News Trail, Lokesh Ram, Student activist had alleged that Students are not provided basic material for competitive exams.

“The administration has forgotten that the students need material for Common entrance exams and state exams. Basic connectivity features like non-stop Wi-Fi and 24*7 library are not being administered to us.A sum like Rs. 1 crore for a single room's renovation contradicts the dire need for financial aid programs and hostel improvements,” he lamented.

Moreover, students allege mismanagement, claiming that the projected renovation cost of 1 crore far exceeds the estimated expenses, raising questions about possible financial discrepancies.

However renovation work had commenced amidst student objection. The Chancellor defended the move, with the delay of the Assessment and Accreditation Council’s (NAAC) visit as the reason for the delayed start.

However students demand that the renovation work be stopped, as they allege the work is a move rooted to exploit students.

The uproar at Bangalore University underscores a broader issue of financial prioritization, prompting calls for governmental attention to address student concerns amidst the controversy surrounding the renovation project.

“We have planned to take this to the Chief Minister, including the Education Minister and the Governor,” Lokesh Ram added. When News Trail tried to contact the secretary of the Vice Chancellor, no response was elicited.
