BBMP contractors' assn president Ambikapathy dies
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The president of the BBMP Contractors’ Association and the vice president of the Karnataka State Contractor's Association, R Ambikapathy, breathed his last after suffering a heart attack on Monday.
This comes in the aftermath of the recent Income Tax (IT) department raids and search operations conducted at several locations in Bengaluru resulting in the recovery of approximately Rs 42 crore from a flat associated with Ambikapathy.
The IT sleuths in October had raided Ambikapathy's brother Pradeep's residence in Sultanpalya in Bengaluru and reportedly found 23 boxes containing Rs 500 denomination notes.
The IT officials also claimed to have found documents on bank accounts and lockers as well.
However the raids had sparked off a heated debate, with the BJP alleging that the money was part of Congress’s illegal fund meant for campaigning in poll-bound states.
