Bengaluru: A woman from Chikkaballapur district was apprehended by the Cubbon Park Police here after she confessed to having killed her six-yearold nephew, to exact revenge on her sister.
The accused identified as Ambika, 32, was handed over to the Peresandra Police by the cops in Bengaluru.
The drama unfolded when an auto-rickshaw driver brought the woman to the Cubbon Park Police Station instead of taking her to Shanthinagar, the police said.
It was revealed that Ambika, a resident of Muthu Kadahalli, was married and had two children. However she recently had a tussle with her husband and went back to stay at her mother's house.
Her sister Anitha had also deserted her husband over five years ago and had been staying in the same house.
According to sources, both the sisters were often found quarrelling over petty issues. In her confession to the police, Ambika stated that she wanted to take revenge on her sister for "ruining her life."
When Anitha's children Manasvi, 8, and Madhu, 6, had gone to school to attend Kanaka Dasa Jayanthi celebrations on Thursday, Ambika allegedly went to the school and told the children that she would take them to a bakery.
Believing her, the children accompanied her. However Ambika allegedly took them to a farm and hit Madhu on the head, killing him instantly. She buried the body nearby and took Manasvi to Bengaluru in a bus.
As she alighted at KR Market bus station on Thursday night, Ambika hired an auto-rickshaw and asked the driver to drop her at Shanthinagar.
The auto-rickshaw driver, Anil, told the police that during the course of her conversation, the accused had told him that she found the girl wandering on the street and wanted to admit her to an adoption center here.
However when Anil questioned the girl about her parents, Ambika gave evasive answers which raised his suspicion.
Suspecting something amiss, the autorickshaw driver drove them to Cubbon Park Police Station and reported the matter.
On grilling, the woman confessed to the crime and was later handed over to the Chikkaballapur police. The mother of the boy had filed an abduction complaint against her sister.
