Man misuses 'Public Eye' app to take revenge on villagers

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Concerned by the recent misuse of a portal launched by the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), the Kanakapura Police have written to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda to draw his attention towards a bizarre incident.

As per the police, a person identified as Lokesh, is said to have misused the 'Public Eye' portal to upload pictures of traffic violations caught by a CCTV camera around his house in Kanakapura due to which over 70 people in the village have reportedly received "false" traffic challans totalling up to Rs 5 lakh.

The victims were crestfallen when they received the traffic notices from the BTP amounting up to thousands of rupees and reported the matter to the jurisdictional police station.

Following an investigation it was known that Lokesh, who was employed at a private firm in Bengaluru, had taken images of erring vehicles in Kanakapura and uploaded them into the portal making it look like they were captured in Bengaluru.

The Kanakapura Police said he did this to take revenge on people with whom he had a personal grudge. When the police tried to reach him, he absconded, they added.

Meanwhile it has come to light that the accused had sent an email to the police superintendent’s office a few days back stating that he faces a threat to life from the villagers.
