Bengaluru: A first-year Hotel Management student of a private college in the city, allegedly committed suicide by consuming sleeping pills here, police said on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Nikhil Suresh, and the incident took place on Thursday at a paying guest (PG) accomodation in Nagarbhavi where the student was staying with his friends in Bengaluru.
The parents of the student blamed the college dean and filed a police case against him and other staff accusing them of harassing Nikhil.
According to the complaint, Nikhil had a dispute with a fellow female student approximately 15 days prior to his untimely death.
Following this, the college authorities had barred from attending the classes for 15 days, leaving him in a state of despair.
Nikhil's parents alleged that he had attempted to apologise and wrote a letter to the college authorities, but his request was rejected.
The parents further mentioned that they had approached Bannerghatta Police Station for help, but were told to wait for 15 days.
On Friday, a complaint against the college authorities was registered at the Chandra Layout Police Station.
The police following an inspection, said they did not find any suicide note from the PG.
"But a few days after his suspension, the deceased had penned his thoughts on a notebook in which he mentioned how he was very disturbed with what had happened in college due to an old matter and the management was not allowing him to return to his classes," the police said.
Demanding strict action against the college administra - tion, Nikhil's parents along with others staged a protest outside the college seeking justice for their son.
Asked about the allegations, the officer said, "We have registered a case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code against the College authorities. We are verifying the allegations and investigation is underway," the police added.
