Bengaluru: In 2024, Bengaluru Namma Metro is set to undergo a significant expansion, bringing relief to commuters and enhancing the city's connectivity.

The introduction of the Yellow Line, covering 19 km from RV Road to Bommasandra, is a major highlight, connecting key IT hubs like BTM Layout and Silk Board and is expected to be operational by February 2024.

April 2024 will witness the inauguration of the Green Line Extension, spanning Nagasandra to Madavara, and the RV Road Metro Station to Bommasandra line, catering to the increasing demand for efficient transportation.

Phase 2A, the Outer Ring Road Metro Line from Silk Board to KR Puram, is set to improve connectivity with 13 additional stations, with partial operationalisation in 2024.

The Blue Line/Airport Line from KR Puram to Kempegowda International Airport, spanning 39.8 km, is under construction, with progress expected in 2024.

Altogether, these developments signify a remarkable year for Namma Metro, bringing over 27 km of new lines and a promising step towards a more connected and accessible Bengaluru.

Way forward for BMTC and KSRTC Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is embarking on an expansion of its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, focusing on new corridors and improvements to existing ones in 2024.

The goal is to offer commuters faster and more reliable bus services, addressing urban mobility challenges.

BMTC is also incorporating an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) to optimise traffic management and bus operations using real-time data for route optimisation and passenger information.

The MD OF BMTC, IAS Sathyavathi G shared that there is a collaboration in progress with an IIT Delhibased company Continental to offer audio devices for visually challenged commuters, ensuring real-time bus tracking and information announcements.

Simultaneously, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is planning to increase rural connectivity through the introduction of new routes and increased service frequency.

Technology plays a pivotal role in this transformation, with both BMTC and KSRTC implementing online booking, mobile ticketing, and real-time bus tracking solutions to elevate the overall commuting experience for residents of Bengaluru.
