Mysuru: Kannada Rajyotsava awardee and writer Prof C Naganna on Sunday stressed the need to translate the literary works of Kannada poet laureate Kuvempu to other languages.

He was speaking after being felicitated at the function organized by Kannada Chaluvali Kendra Samithi, Mysuru at Pathrakarathara Bhawan in the city.

He said that Kuvempu had penned a lot of novels, fiction work, short stories and poems, in all forms of literature and had also contributed to strengthen Kannada literature, but only a few of his literary works have been translated to other languages including English.

As Kuvempu who is also recipient of several awards including Kendra Sahitya Academy and Jnanpith awards, earned a reputation for his 'Vishwamanava' message by giving a call for universal brotherhood, there is a great demand for his literary works in overseas countries, he said.

Another writer, Bannur Raju wanted youth to emulate the teachings of Kuvempu who also advocated Mantra Mangalya like simple marriage, while urging youth to ponder over looking beyond caste, religion and borders to become universal citizens and build a progressive society.
