City top cop sets a fine example

Bengaluru: While most people ushered in the New Year by enjoying night outs with friends, cutting cakes, and partying in the city.
However the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayananda took an initiative to set an example by donating the same amount to an orphanage.
As a usual practice, several officers and citizens met the Bengaluru Police chief on January 1 morning to wish him well for the New year, but were surprised when he politely refused to accept the bouquets and sweets.
He further asked the citizens and the police personnel to donate the same amount of money to an orphanage or to those in need.
Later, during a virtual meeting with the officials including Additional Commissioner of Police (ACPs) and the Inspector-level officers, Dayanand suggested making it customary henceforth instead of wasting money in presenting gifts to each other.
He said that the money spent on purchasing gifts, cards, sweets and bouquets can instead be used to buy groceries, medicines or other basic needs that can be donated to the poor people or to the children in orphanages.
He motivated the officers to follow this practice by donating generously to the orphanages in their own jurisdictions and sharing a photo with the children on social media to encourage other officials and citizens to do the same.
Following his suggestion, several personnel donated fruits, bread, milk and sweets to children at an orphanage in the city.
Further the Police Commissioner also hosted a programme and invited 17 resilient acid attack survivors and 16 domestic violence survivors at the Command Centre in the Police Commissioner's office in Bengaluru.
The women received a comprehensive briefing on the pivotal role of the Command Center which plays an important role in prioritizing women's safety.
They were also coupled with an insightful overview of the operational dynamics of our dedicated Namma 112 helpline, Police Commissioner Dayananda said.
