Jayanagar 4th Block street vendors protest BBMP's forceful eviction

Bengaluru: In a demonstration, street vendors in Jayanagar 4th Block initiated a sit-in protest on the evening of January 12, challenging the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike's (BBMP) recent attempt to forcibly clear them from the area.
Despite the Protection and Regulation of Livelihood of Street Vendors Act of 2014 safeguarding their rights, the vendors allege that the BBMP forcefully removed several footpath vendors a couple of months ago.
These vendors returned to resume their livelihood, prompting the BBMP's renewed attempt on January 12.
The confrontational removal resulted in a protest on January 13, drawing over 100 people who gathered with their fruits, vegetables, and flower baskets to assert their right to carry on their business.
The vendors demand recognition of their rights and adherence to the legal protection afforded to them under the Street Vendors Act, emphasising their commitment to securing their means of livelihood in Jayanagar 4th Block.
