Bengaluru: Two people were killed and 12 others got injured after an underconstruction school building collapsed in Bodarahalli village of Anekal on Friday morning.
The incident took place around 7 am following which the Anekal police along with the fire personnel reached the spot and rescued several construction workers who were trapped under the debris.
The injured were rushed to a government hospital in Anekal, the police said. Unfortunately two workers identified as Shahid and Minar Biswas were found dead.
The police said that the deceased hailed from Jharkhand. It was revealed that around 20 labourers, mostly from North India and North Karnataka, were working at the site which was an under construction school building, named as St Agnes.
The building collapsed in the morning when the labourers were loading concrete on the second floor of the building.
However due to heavy load, the centring or the temporary structure cracked following which the upper floor collapsed on Shahid and Biswas, killing them instantly.
Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) Mallikarjun Baldandi visited the site for an inspection during the rescue operation.
He said that the building collapsed during the construction of a portico on the second floor at St Agnes School.
"Twelve workers were injured in the incident among which five have suffered severe injuries and were shifted to a hospital in Bengaluru immediately. The personnel have cleared the debris to ensure no one is trapped under it," he said.
The labourers had arrived at the site to resume their work early, fearing that it would be difficult to load the concrete on the upper floor in the evening.
