Bengaluru: Despite a special recruitment drive aimed at hiring faculty members from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) between January 2021 and June 2023, the institute did not succeed in recruiting any individuals from ST category.

According to information obtained through an RTI application, during this period, 585 applicants from the general category, 125 from the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 39 from the STs sought employment.

Of these applicants, IIMB extended offers to 23 from the general category (with 17 accepting), two from the SC category (both accepted), and none from the ST category.

Additionally, of 223 applicants from the Other Backward Classes (OBC), eight joined as faculty members.

However, no offers were extended to the 22 applicants from the Person with Disability (PwD) category and the 23 from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as reported by The Hindu.

Presently, IIMB has 10 faculty members from the OBC category, five from the SCs, and only one from the STs.

The institute clarified that data for faculty hired before 2020 is based on voluntary disclosure available with IIMB.
