Bengaluru: Bengaluru's Electronics City Metro received a significant boost as the inaugural driverless train has been dispatched from China. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) disclosed that the initial six-coach train destined for the Electronics City Metro (19-km Yellow Line) was loaded onto a vessel on January 20 and is presently en route to Chennai.

Anticipated to reach the Chennai port by mid or end of February 2024, the train will then be transported to Bengaluru's Hebbagodi depot via road, as detailed by a senior BMRCL official.

A delegation of BMRCL officials conducted Factory Acceptance Tests in China, where Chinese customs performed an inspection before dispatch. Upon arrival in Bengaluru, a three-month trial period will commence.

The decision by Namma Metro to introduce driverless trains on the Yellow Line resulted in the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation securing the contract for the first two trains, while Titagarh Rail India Company is entrusted with producing the remaining trains.
