K’taka govt separate industry status

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Granting permission to operate 24/7, ease in procedures to obtain licenses and tax concessions are some of the demands put forth, in a letter addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramiah, by the Bruhat Bangalore Hoteliers Association on Tuesday.

The letter comes on the backdrop of the scheduled state budget on February 16.

The demand for round the clock operations of hotels has been a long standing one, the association said in the letter adding that the demand would help night shift workers, and increase revenue.

Last year in July, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar had welcomed the hoteliers' proposal and ensured that they operate 24/7. However, it is still on paper, the letter further mentioned.

Despite unsuccessful attempts, hoteliers hope this push will fetch them the permission. With regards to the separate industry status, the letter claims that other states have industry status.
