Bengaluru: In a relief for commuters in the city, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation limited (BMRCL) will open Kamaraj road connecting Mahatma Gandhi road and Cubbon road, by April this year after 4 years, Chief Public Relations Officer Yashvanth Chavan B L confirmed on Friday.

The road was taken for construction of the Underground station of MG Road for the Pink Line connecting Kalena Agrahara in the south and Nagawara in the North of Bengaluru.

However, when asked what type of road would be laid, Chavan said that the road will be the same as it was in 2019, presumably by bitumen.

Explaining more on the Pink Line, which is scheduled to be open by 2025, Chavan had said the latest technologies like Platform Screen Doors in underground metro stations and Communications based train control for uninterrupted communication of trains will be implemented.

“To serve demand, we are also looking to cut down the frequency time in this line. The 21.25 kilometre long Pink Line, will feature two interchange stations - Jayadeva Hospital for the Yellow Line and the elevated station of MG Road connecting the purple line. The BMRCL are looking to give direct connections between the two.

“We are employing options, and a plan on the same would be formed. In June 2019, the BMRCL had closed 200 metres of Kamaraj in order to carry works for the Pink Line. This had irked commuters and traders in commercial streets. The opening, netizens say will ease traffic snarls. However, demands for a walkway were also put forth on social media.
