Bengaluru: A Bengaluru-based software engineer claims to have been terminated from his position at a private company a day after posting about the technology sector's recession.

Jishnu Mohan asserts that his dismissal was part of a broader corporate restructuring within the life benefits platform.

Having been with the company for four years since joining in 2019, Mohan took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a detailed thread outlining his experience and how he navigated through the situation.

"The whole recession situation in tech making me uneasy. May be at the lowest confidence level in my career," he tweeted on February 7.

In an update posted on Thursday (February 8), Mohan said he was laid off within 24 hours.

"That was quick. I got laid off today, as part of reorg. So actively looking for a job now. Please let me know if anyone is hiring," the techie said on X.

"When I made the original tweet on Feb 7, I wasn't aware that my company was planning a layoff. I made the tweet after seeing the trends on Twitter and layoff news from MNCs," he added.

Mohan also shared that he is actively looking for a job and asked for help from social media users. His post gained significant traction, garnering over 138,100 views on X.

In a show of support, users rallied to assist Mohan by sharing potential job opportunities and forwarding his resume to relevant contacts.

The technology sector has witnessed another round of job cuts as it navigates through 2024, further reducing its workforce after widespread layoffs in the previous year.

A website, Layoffs.fyi, reported a startup monitoring job cuts in the industry since the pandemic, reports that approximately 32,000 tech workers have already faced job losses in the early months of 2024.
