Whither jobs PM? asks Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Rozgar Mela’ or job fair a day prior wherein he handed over appointment letters.

The CM accused Modi of not living up to his promises of delivering jobs at the scale at which he had promised.

“Where are the 20 crore jobs? Where are the lakhs of jobs that you said are available at the job fair? Tell us the truth about how many jobs you have created, prime minister?” Siddaramaiah asked.

“Narendra Modi, your own Cabinet colleague Jitendra Singh had answered a question in the Lok Sabha in July 2022, disclosing that ‘between 2014-15 and 2021-22, only seven lakh jobs were created’ Is this the truth at the end of the day?” he asked.

Siddaramaiah alleged that the dip in employment rates could be traced back to 2014, which was made worse by the November 8, 2016 demonetization.

He also claimed that the economic downturn caused by the pandemic made things worse.
