Water to be ferried to B'luru from nearby areas: Shivakumar

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said that the plan was to ferry water to larger cities from nearby rural and urban areas. He was referring to the fact the needs of urban centres are greater due to higher populations.

The Deputy CM said that similar plans were afoot for Bengaluru as well. Shivakumar, who also holds the Water Resources and Bengaluru Development portfolios made the comments at a press conference after a meeting on drought and water scarcity.

“The Chief Minister, Revenue minister, RDPR (Rural Development and Panchayat Raj) minister, along with other ministers, discussed the drought issue. We have instructed the officials to use water sources within the 15 kilometres of periphery of cities to supply water to urban areas. Similarly, it was decided to fetch water to Bengaluru City from Ramanagara, Hosakote, Channapatna, Magadi and other towns using water tankers,” he said.

He also assured that the State government would ensure adequate water supply to Bengaluru come what may.
