Bengaluru: Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) along with the district administration on Thursday announced price rates for water tanker supplies.
In the midst of the city’s potable water crisis, the civic agencies are looking to curb unfair price demands of these tankers. Reports say that a 12,000 litre tank will cost anywhere between Rs 1800 and Rs 2500.
B Suresh, Engineer in Chief of BWSSB explained the basis of the fixed price rates.
“The executive committee led by chief engineer of BBMP, along with the chiefs from here (BWSSB) have considered all factors: driver costs, fuel costs, and profitability factors are all considered,” he said.
However, the chief engineer was mum, when asked about the distance going past 10 kilometres.
Those who order a 6000-litre water tanker within a 5-km radius will have to pay ?600 while citizens who live farther than 5 km but not less than 10 km, will have to shell out Rs 750.
Charges for an 8000-litre tanker have been capped at ?700, while Rs. 800 is the charge for supplies in a 5-10km radius.
For citizens who are in need of larger qauntities, 12,000 liter tankers are available, starting at Rs. 1000 and Rs. 1200 for distances within 10 km.
