Massive fire engulfs tyre godown in Chamarajpet

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A massive fire broke out at a tyre godown and spread out quickly to two other adjoining warehouses resulting in loss of valuables including 15,000 tyres and 60,000 tubes along with several oil filled containers in Gavipura of Chamarajpet in the city.

According to sources, the smoke first was noticed bellowing out of the tyre warehouse around 4:30 am on Sunday.

The matter was immediately reported to the jurisdictional police and the fire and emergency department.

As the fire spread rapidly, the three godowns gutted in the fire. Five fire tenders were pressed into service which took more than five hours to douse the fire.

The officials confirmed that there was no one inside the godown and that it was locked. A major tragedy was averted and fortunately no casualties were reported in the incident, they said.

The officials suspect an electrical short circuit could be the reason behind the fire in tyre godown which spread to two other warehouses which had plastic tubes, plywood sheets and flammable oil stored.

The officials further said that they have not yet ascertained the exact estimation of the value of the items destroyed in the fire.

A probe is on to ascertain the value and to determine the cause of the fire.
