Retired army man assaulted in road rage

Bengaluru: Aggressive driving has become a topic of concern in Bengaluru over the last few years, and for good reason.

According to experts, environmental factors such as crowded roads can boost anger behind the wheel.

Certain psychological factors, including displaced anger and high life stress, are also linked to road rage.

In a latest incident of road rage, a retired brigadier of the Indian Army, Ravi Muniswamy, was allegedly assaulted and the keys of his car taken away by a few motorist on the New BEL Road in Sanjaynagar.

The matter came to light when Muniswamy, a resident of Chamundi Layout in Vidyaranyapura, shared a post along with the video clip of the incidnet and tagged the Bengaluru Police.

"The law and order situation in Bengaluru has hit rock bottom," he said in the post.

In his complaint to the Sanjaynagar police, he stated that he was heading towards Kuvempu Circle from MS Ramaiah hospital when he was stopped by the three occupants of another car who demanded him to lower his window.

He also alleged that they snatched the keys of his car and assaulted him due to which he sustained injuries. In a post on X, he claimed, "They were three people against one. They almost broke my back with the belt. If the Good Samaritan onlookers had not helped me, possibly there would have been a death on the roads of Bengaluru today," he wrote.

Responding to his post, the Bengaluru police said, "We have forwarded your complaint to concerned police officers for necessary action."

On Tuesday, the police said that they have registered an FIR and are now on the lookout for the attackers. Brigadier Muniswamy has contested the last Assembly election from Byatarayanapura here.

Sadly, there have been cases reported where elderly people and women drivers have also been assaulted in the city during road rage cases.

In a few cases, even the policemen, advocates and government officials have been assaulted by aggressive motorists here.
