Saffronisation of Doordarshan?

New Delhi, NT Bureau: DD News, the flagship channel of state-run broadcaster Doordarshan, unveiled a new logo on Tuesday, opting for a saffron hue over its previous red emblem.

In a social media announcement, the state-run news channel affirmed its enduring values while embracing its "new avatar."

The logo switch however sparked criticism on social platforms, with some users decrying it as emblematic of the "saffronisation" of the state-run broadcaster.

Saffron, often linked with Hindutva ideology championed by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its parent group, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, drew attention.

Former Prasar Bharti Chief Executive Officer Jawhar Sircar expressed concern over what he perceived as Doordarshan's saffronisation, suggesting a shift from Prasar Bharti to "Prachar [propaganda] Bharti."
