Bengaluru: The power to vote is an important part of a democratic country like India.

While many are eligible to cast a vote, only a few are enthusiastic about it, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said while speaking to the civic officials and Employees Welfare Association on Sunday.

Members of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Employees Welfare Association had organised a foot march at the Cubbon Park to raise awareness on the importance of voting.

The event was inaugurated by the Bengaluru top cop Dayananda, along with Additional District Returning Officer Snehal, Bangalore Central Returning Officer Harish K, and Association President Amrit Raj.

"Only those who perform their duty towards the nation have the right to raise their voices against the system. It is our duty to vote for our representatives. Casting vote is the most effective medium of communicating our grievances about the system," Dayananda said.

Addressing the people at the event, the Bengaluru police commissioner said that the previous voting turnout was very low and urged the citizens to create a history by fully participating in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Highlighting the city police department’s commitment to ensuring a safe voting environment, the city top cop reassured the citizens of providing necessary facilities and security arrangements at polling booths across the city.

Snehal lauded BBMP’s efforts, emphasizing the significance of April 26 as a crucial day for democracy. She urged citizens to participate in large numbers, stressing the importance of voting for shaping the future.

The voter awareness walk commenced from Cubbon Park’s main gate, traversing through Kasturba Road, Kanteerava Stadium Road, and Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road before concluding near the BBMP Cooperative Society.
