Bengaluru: Bengaluru received its first bout of plentiful summer showers on Thursday as the city got some relief from the soaring mercury.

Light rain began pattering parts of the city close to sundown and the intensity of the rain picked up eventually and was accompanied by thunder.

Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) recorded 20 mm of rain at Vidyapeeta (South Zone) in Bengaluru Urban district as of 10 pm.

A tree was uprooted at the Bangalore University’s Jnanabharati campus.

Moreover, thunder showers were also reported in other parts of Old Mysuru region, apart from the neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

KSNDMC recorded 21 mm rain at Kurttihosur in Chamarajanagara district, 18 mm in Yalesandra in Kolar district as of 10 pm.

Nearly dry April for city The development comes in the backdrop of India Meteorological Department (IMD) declaring on Thursday that their Bangalore city Meteorological Office recorded 0 mm rainfall during April, a first since they’ve been keeping a record since 1901.

However, some parts of the state capital did receive little rain on April 20 and 21.

These were the first showers in the city since the first week of December 2023. IMD says that the average rainfall for Bengaluru in April is 61.7 mm.
