B’luru rains are back and nothing has changed

Bengaluru: Bengaluru once again bore the full brunt of a deluge on Wednesday with as many as 150 complaints of tree fall being registered in various zones of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and by the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP).

According to data available from BBMP at 9 pm, Rajarajeshwari Nagar saw 70 trees uprooted with Annapoorneshwari Nagar and the Ambedkar Institute of Technology witnessing the most cases, according to the control room.

However, only 4 cases have been attended to. In the south zone, around 16 trees have been uprooted with the incidents reported from Hosakerehalli, Kathriguppe, Koramangala, Vanivilas Jayanagar and BTM 1st stage.

Eight of them have attended so far. A manhole of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) was seen overflowing at Balaji Nagar.

“This has not been solved for years,” complained V K Srivatsa, a resident.

In Bommanahalli, two complaints of tree fall have been attended to while in Yelahanka zone, seven complaints were received by the Palike of which three have been attended to.In the west zone, 30 complaints of tree fall were received by the officials.

From the East zone, 24 complaints were received by the control room of which 12 have been attended to. Dasarahalli saw three trees being uprooted. Waterlogging was reported by the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) at Hebbal flyover, Summanahalli, Nagawara bridge, Nayandahalli, Cantonment railway underpass, Jayamahal road, K R Market towards Mysuru road, SJP road and NGEF signal.

Traffic police reported a tree falling at Thimmaiah road which damaged an auto-rickshaw. The city recorded 5 millimeters of rainfall with the showers likely to continue till Saturday. Heavy rainfall is predicted from Monday, May 12 across the state.

Temporary support piles for metro station fall on road

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) on Wednesday confirmed that temporary piles installed for excavation work for the Pottery Town metro station of the Pink Line had fallen and had caused damage to a part of Bore Bank road.

The road will remain closed until restoration is complete. No casualties have been reported.
