Bengaluru police crackdown on illegal activities

Bengaluru, NT Correspondent: Despite the police cracking down on drug peddling, illegal gambling dens, immoral trafficking, and illegal firearms possession, the crime graph in the city continues to rise. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda stated that in April alone, over 563 individuals allegedly involved in illegal activities were arrested by the police, including eight foreign nationals.

Following raids conducted in April, the city police seized at least 131 kg of marijuana, 66 grams of charas, 1.2 kg of cocaine, 6.2 kg of MDMA, and 199 ecstasy tablets.

The city's top cop mentioned that cases were registered against 182 persons for gambling, cricket betting, immoral trafficking, and illegal possession of arms, with 563 individuals involved in these cases arrested.

The city police tracked at least 13 absconding criminals and rowdy sheeters who had disappeared from the radar and initiated legal action against them. Externment orders have been issued to 42 rowdy sheeters who violated bail bond conditions.

At least 369 people were arrested for gambling, and 48 cases were registered against them. Under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 24 people were arrested, and eight persons were arrested under the Copyright Act.

Police Commissioner B Dayananda reported that the trial of 997 cases was completed in April, with 510 persons convicted.
