Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Bengaluru, often dubbed the 'cool city,' is now grappling with record-breaking temperatures which has also led to an increase in some ailments.

Alongside the fear of heatstroke, the scorching heat has also triggered cases of vomiting and dysentery which are on the rise. The sudden change in weather with rainfall occurring over the past two days, has added to health concerns.

Diarrhoea cases are a major worry for which polluted water, excessive food consumption, and prolonged exposure to the Sun are cited as the reasons.

Over the last week, Bengaluru has reported 4,450 cases of diarrhoea, contributing to the state's overall tally of over 52,000 cases.

The health department is closely monitoring the situation and has initiated a study on water supply in affected areas, particularly in Hassan district, where two deaths have been reported due to diarrhoea.

Contaminated water and food, combined with the fact that children are at home during the summer vacation, have led to a spike in such cases among kids. This not only affects their digestive system but also poses other serious health risks.

Health experts advise individuals experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal cramping, fatigue, fever, or nausea to seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment.

Meanwhile, in response to the detection of cholera cases, the health department is conducting culture tests on fecal samples from patients admitted to hospitals with symptoms of vomiting and dysentery
