Woman arrested for killing transgender live-in partner

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A 51-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly killing her transgender live-in partner by strangulating the latter with a towel after a heated argument in Bengaluru, officials said on Friday.

The body of Manju Naik, aged 42, was discovered at her residence in Murugeshpalya on May 3. Manju used to reside with the accused woman, identified as Prema.

The police discovered Manju's decomposed body after neighbours complained of a foul stench coming from the house of the couple.

Following an initial investigation, Prema was arrested by Bengaluru Police. According to the police, Naik had converted his gender after being biologically born as a trans male and had been living with Prema as a couple for 20 years.

On April 26, the couple started fighting after Manju came home drunk. During the heated exchange, he started assaulting Prema.

When Naik came to attack her with a knife, she strangled Naik with a towel. The police recovered Manju's body on May 3. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru East, Kuldeep Kumar Jain said a case has been registered in the matter and a probe is underway.
