Old habits die hard: Modi trains guns on Muslims again

Mumbai, NT Bureau: A day after claiming that he would not indulge in “Hindu-Muslim” politics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the Opposition Congress party wanted to give 15 per cent Budgetary allocations to the country’s largest religious minority but couldn’t because the BJP had opposed it vehemently.

Modi made the remarks at an election rally in Mumbai on Wednesday. The PM had on Tuesday given an exclusive interview to News 18 channel in which he claimed that he would be unworthy of being in public life the day he engaged in communal politics.

Modi had added that he hadn’t referred to Muslims as “those with more children” and “infiltrators”, contradicting his own speech in Banswara, Rajasthan on April 21.

Modi once again misquoted then PM Manmohan Singh’s 206 speech, alleging the latter said Muslims had the first claim on the nation’s resources. Singh had in fact referred to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minorities, women and other disadvantaged groups.
