Dengue control efforts intensified with spurt in rainfall, says BBMP Special Commissioner
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Dengue prevention efforts are already underway in the city, as highlighted by Suralkar Vikas Kishor, the Special Commissioner of Health and Animal Husbandry of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
With widespread rainfall occurring, precautionary measures have been intensified to curb the spread of dengue fever. In observance of National Dengue Day, an awareness rally program was inaugurated on Thursday at Ramaswamy Palaya area.
Kishor emphasised that various control measures, including awareness campaigns on mosquito control across all municipal wards and medicine distribution, have already commenced.
The increase in rainfall often leads to water accumulation, providing favourable conditions for mosquito breeding. To counter this, fogging and medicine distribution are deemed essential. Mosquito breeding sites such as flower pots, discarded tyres, and containers holding stagnant water are being targeted to prevent water accumulation.
A larval survey has been launched to identify areas where Aedes and Aegypti mosquitoes , carriers of dengue, breed. Measures are being taken to eradicate larvae at the initial stages to prevent further spread.
Health officials, ASHA workers, doctors' teams, and municipal health centre teams are conducting door-to-door visits to identify potential dengue cases. To enhance public awareness, social media platforms, wardlevel awareness rallies, and sound amplifiers in municipal vehicles are being utilised.
Leaflets on dengue prevention are being distributed house-tohouse. Dr Madani, the chief health officer, Dr. Bhagyalakshmi, the former district health officer, Sujatha, the dengue surveillance officer, as well as health officers and college students are involved in this awareness campaign.
