Week after student found dead, city police register murder case
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A week after a 21-yearold college student was found dead in suspicious circumstances here, the Subramanyapura Police has lodged a case of murder, an official said on Wednesday.
Prabhudhya, daughter of a social activist based in Bengaluru, was found dead at her residence in Subramanyapura police station limits on the evening of May 15 with her throat slit and cut marks on her hands.
Initially, the police had registered a case of unnatural death. However, Prabhudhya's mother, Sowmya suspected it to be a case of murder.
She told the police that her daughter was strong and would not have ended her life adding that there was no apparent reason for such a drastic step. Sowmya also alleged that her daughter was brutally murdered.
Prabhudhya's neck and hands were cut, and she was attacked on the face and head. Police sources said that since the knife was found beside the body and there was no theft, the case was initially considered as an unnatural death.
Sowmya had earlier claimed that her daughter's mobile phone was missing and the backdoor of the house was open.
"I have helped rescue many children, raised my voice against prominent politicians, and questioned the system. I am unable to understand who could have done this. I raised my daughter with self-respect, morality, and courage. I want to know the truth behind her mysterious death," Sowmya said.
Based on suspicion, the police started a probe to ascertain the exact cause of Prabhudhya's death. The cops are investigating and listing suspected persons.
