Police to install 890 AI cameras in city

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Even as measures to set right the 2,500 defunct cameras in Bengaluru city are still awaited, Bengaluru City Police (BCP) on Thursday announed plans to install 890 AI cameras across 500 spots in the IT capital, according to reports.

The BCP intends to ask Public Sector Undertaking Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to review the defunct cameras which will then be connected to the command centre by the end of June.

Officials told reporters that the new cameras will be placed at strategic locations as part of the Safe City project. These cameras will help in traffic management and keep tabs on any untoward incident like road rage, hit and run, and sexual harassment.

The police also plan to procure eight drone cameras and eight high-definition face recognition cameras, for installation in public places like bus stands, railway stations and sports arenas, in addition to establishing 150 watch towers. A senior official stated that the project will be completed by October this year
