Padayatra walk for water: DK
NT Correspondent
Mysuru: KPCC President DK Shivakumar called the Mekedatu Padayatra a “walk for water” and compared it to the freedom movement. He said 10,000 people from Chamarajnagar should participate in this mega movement adding that people should enroll online and will get a certificate of participation.
Speaking at the Janandolana convention at Chamarajnagar on Sunday, he said, “ Over 5,000 acres of land will be submerged for the project and this includes only 570 acres of revenue land while the rest is forest department land. When there is not adequate water in Harangi, Hemavathi, Kabini and KRS dams in the Cauvery basin, water from the Mekedaatu balancing reservoir can be used. It will also fetch 20 TMC of water for Bengaluru. It is our water and our right to use it,” Mr Shivakumar said.
He added, “The Congress is like a needle which knits and binds society, but the BJP is like a pair of scissors which divides society. The Congress has given developmental programmes including Anna Bhagya and Ksheera Bhagya worth several thousand crores. But the BJP is engaged in breaking society with laws like the Anti-conversion bill,’’ he said.
