Two siblings mowed down by water tanker

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Two siblings died on Friday morning when a speeding water tanker crushed them to death near Dodda Nagamangala in Electronic City Traffic Police Station limits here.

The deceased were identified by the jurisdictional traffic police as Madhumita, 20, and her brother, Ranjan, 18, residents of Kempegowda Layout in Dodda Nagamangala in the outskirts of Bengaluru.

According to the police, the incident took place when Ranjan was on the way to drop his sister Madhumita at her college. It was learnt that Madhumita was a student of a prestigious college in Jayanagar and it was her first day there after the holidays.

An official from the Electronic City Traffic Police Station explained that at that time, a speeding water tanker initially touched the side view mirror of the two-wheeler which Ranjan was driving, causing him to lose balance.

In a second, the siblings fell down and came under the rear wheels of the tanker. Suffering severe head injuries, they died on the spot. Eyewitnesses stated that the tragedy occurred due to the rash driving of the water tanker driver.

Meanwhile, the mother of the children appealed to the authorities to keep a check on the speed of vehicles and prevent any such tragedies. She appealed to two-wheeler riders to wear helmets and drive slowly.

“I have lost both my children, and I do not know how I’m supposed to live?” she said unable to contain her grief.
