Restaurant directed to compensate customer for substandard breakfast
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A drive-in restaurant along the National Highway-48 faced the ire of the authorities from the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissioner after a family was allegedly served food of a substandard quality.
According to sources, the Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-I, Bengaluru bench, took action against Udupi Garden for its alleged lapse in service standards.
As per the complaint, a family en route to Hassan stopped at the restaurant to have breakfast. They were served cold, stale and tasteless dishes.
The complainant, who claimed to be suffering from high blood pressure, found the quality of the food so poor that she could not consume it, resulting in health complications throughout the day.
This “unfortunate” experience marred their planned family outing. Following the incident, the complainant sought redressal through leg al means, issueing a notice to the restuarant but received no response.
Subsequently, feeling aggrieved, she approached the district commission with her complaint. The commission, comprising B Narayanappa (president), Jyothi N (member) and Sharavathi SM (member), ruled against the restaurant after hearing the complaint filed by the consumer.
During proceedings, the DC noted that the restaurant did not contest the allegations raised by the complainant. The DC held the restaurant accountable for deficient service as a service provider, and directed it to compensate the complainant with Rs 5,000 plus Rs 2,000 towards litigation expenses.
