Hebbal headache: Flyover now cause of commuter woes

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Motorists and those living near Hebbal in North Bengaluru continue to bear the brunt of disruptions in the Hebbal flyover expansion project, initiated by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) a year ago.

Excavation of the roads in the flyover has led to severe problems, with both Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus stops relocated far from their original positions.

Those travelling from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to the city now find themselves stuck in heavy traffic near Baptist Hospital, causing hardship especially for the elderly, children, and differentlyabled individuals.

With cables being cut and relocated, residents in the area have reportedly complained of erratic power supply in the morning. Despite repeatedly contacting authorities to fix the problem, there is no solution forthcoming in the last four months.

To make things worse, the road from the flyover towards Nagenahalli Road is dotted with crater-like potholes which get submerged posing a threat to riders during heavy rains. The BDA officials reportedly assured that work is underway at an accelerated pace and is expected to be completed within the next three to four months.

The expansion includes the construction of a three-lane flyover reportedly stretching 715 metres from Airport Road towards Bengaluru and a corresponding three-lane underpass connecting Yeshwantpur and K R Puram.
