Man jumps in front of Namma Metro Green Line, dies
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In yet another shocking incident, a 57-year-old man committed suicide by jumping in front of an incoming train at the Doddakallasandra Metro Station of the Green Line, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited revealed on Saturday.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. The BMRCL confirmed the suicide took place at 17.45 pm. Services from Yelachenahalli to Silk Institute in South Bengaluru were temporarily suspended.
The body was removed by the police and sent for postmortem. Services resumed by 8.45 pm, the Corporation further stated. This makes it twice in the same week that passengers fell on the Metro tracks.
It is the second such suicide this year, after a law student ended his life at the Attiguppe Metro Station in March. The first suicide in Bengaluru Metro took place in February 2012.
In a bid to curb such incidents, the BMRCL plans to install platform screen doors in all its upcoming networks. In the Purple Line, PSDs have been planned for Nadaprabhu Kempe gowda Station and Sir M Visvesvaraya Station.
