Principals, teachers demand equal pay, job security

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Teachers and principals of Morarji Desai, Kittur Rani Chennamma and Dr BR Ambedkar residential schools, with 15-20 years of service, are on a symbolic protest at the Freedom Park.

These educators, who have been teaching since the 2007-08 academic year, demand equal pay for equal work and job security. They highlighted their significant contributions, such as Ankita Basappa's top state score in the SSLC examination, which underscores the impact of their dedication.

Speaking to News Trail, a teacher said that despite holding government-sanctioned posts and continuously serving under interim orders of the Supreme Court, teachers get “significantly lower salaries than even 'D' group employees”.

“Guest teachers earn Rs. 16,500 a month, while outsourced teachers receive only Rs. 9,161 per month, compared to 'D' group employees, whose monthly remuneration is Rs. 14,000,” she said.

The teachers are only demanding fair treatment and recognition of their efforts that shape the future of countless students, the teacher added.
